Victory in Fontajau

The team sealed their first home victory in a sensational second half

Básquet Girona already knows what it means to win against Fontajau in the LEB Or. He achieved this after a great game against Real Murcia Baloncesto, who ruled in the rematch from both sides of the court (75-63). Davis Rozitis was the best rated (15 rating) in a duel in which Robert Cosialls showed his best version.

Although the team from Murcia took the lead, two triples by Aleix Font put Girona in front twice (6-4). Then the two teams gained intensity in attack and defense, sharing tiny advantages until the end of the first period (19-22). In the first few games of the second quarter, the team was particularly solid in defense and this allowed them to stretch the score, with a first maximum advantage of eight points after a basket by Pep Busquets on the counterattack (34-26) . The revalidated rival didn’t take long to arrive, with inside and outside scores that generated a partial 2-13. In one of the last plays, the winger from Granoller executed a triple that put the balance on the scoreboard, a result that would reach the end of the first twenty minutes (39-39).  

In the rematch, Básquet Girona displayed a complete and choral performance in defense and attack that catapulted them to victory. The even scenario reached the last moments of the period, with the score 54-54, but a 2+1 by Gerard Sevillano and a basket by Davis Rozitis traced an upward path that had continuity at the beginning of the fourth quarter (59-54). In total, a partial 12-0 with an impressive triple by Robert Cosialls at the edge of possession and remarkable defensive situations. A triple by Aleix Font, who had opened the Girona scoring, closed it, in the red’s penultimate possession (75-63).

“I would like to congratulate the players for their effort. I think that today, although in the three minutes it wasn’t like that, we focused our energy well with the things we have to do better, especially playing the third period like we did. We started well and this meant that we entered the game differently. I think we’ve been very good with things we’ve worked on all week and some basics we’ve done wrong. The rebound, which is a sign of our identity, was taken from us, against each other by some players who we knew were doing them and who went to the right or left, they did it to us and we came out hesitant. The game changed for us in the second half, but even so, I don’t think our efforts were regular. However, we also defended very well: there was no easy basketball. ”
