Básquet Girona has added the fourth victory in the fourth meeting of the pre-season, in Figueres against CB Pardinyes (95-60). The third quarter marked the game’s change of script, with a 27-11 run that lifted the team to victory. Aleix Font (17 points), Olaf Schaftenaar and Davis Rozitis (16 points each) have emphasized the scoring in a match that has also marked the difference from the rebound (39 to 17).

A triple by Olaf Schaftenaar opened the scoring in the first minute and a half of the game. The team connected well in attack and acted energetically in defense, getting points in the paint, from the triple and also on the counterattack and attacking the rebound well (10 for 3 from Pardinyes). A triple by Ryan Logan responded to two consecutive triples by Pardinyes that stopped Girona’s good initial run (15-9, 7′). The external success and the subsequent good defensive work allowed the team from Lleida to reduce the difference in the score, until the first quarter ended with a tie (15-15).

Equality was maintained in the early stages of the second quarter until the red team opened a gap of seven points (26-19, 15′). The positive tone in attack and defense has continued to make the difference. Meanwhile, Pardinyes continued to be fueled by outside scoring and Elijah Schmidt’s ability in the paint to get back on the scoreboard (35-32).

A three-pointer by Aleix Font opened a 27-11 run that put the locals on course for victory. As in the matches against El Prat and Barça B, the best mentality in the rematch has been fundamental to give a decisive blow to the scoreboard. In the offensive section, the team has recovered the dynamism in circulation -28 assists in total- and has been effective at the basket, with Font as one of the main artists (12 points in the period). Defensively, he only allowed three Pardinyes players to score, one of them executing two triples, being intense and supportive (62-43).

A 19-0 run increased the difference to thirty-eight points (81-43, 34′). The advantage has increased to 40 points after a triple by Olaf Schaftenar (88-48). The arsenal of triples, once again, has reactivated the Lleida proposal in a tighter final minutes (95-60).

Statements by Carles Marco:

“I think we didn’t do as well as we expected, as has happened to us in some other games. I don’t know if we see them coming because we don’t know the opponent and we are waiting for them a bit and they have to wait. I think that in the last twenty minutes the feeling was that we went out for them and played more physical, unlike the first two quarters, when we were very far from the basket, we went late with many one-on-one situations and we didn’t we passed the ball well (12 turnovers). The path is what we did in the third and fourth quarter, the ones we have to follow to continue improving.”
