SPAR Girona lost in the opening game of the LF Endesa in Fontajau against Azulmarino Palma (83-89). After an even first half, the visitors began to make a difference through second chances and, especially, Alexander’s dominance, which helped the Balearic team to open up a gap that SPAR Girona was no longer able to recover.
SPAR Girona started the game with pace and intensity, maintaining a very vertical game thanks to the recoveries and with Iyana Martín as the main offensive reference, with 12 points in a first quarter that the Girona team finished ahead (23-22). In the second period, however, Azulmarino Palma turned the dynamic around thanks to Kyla Alexander’s dominance under the basket and Torrens’ success, which allowed the visitors to extend their lead to 37-44. SPAR Girona reacted again with Iyana, who with five consecutive points made it 42-44, but Alexander reappeared to leave the score at 42-46.
After the changeover, SPAR Girona reacted and managed to tie the game at 50, but Azulmarino opened up a gap again thanks to Alexander’s dominance, which made a difference in the final stretch of the third quarter and allowed the visitors to reach the last ten minutes with a 60-69 lead. In the last period, the Girona team tried to react in a quarter marked by outside success, with both teams adding three by three, but the second opportunities conceded prevented them from completing the comeback. Iyana, with a three-pointer, made it 79-85, but Azulmarino managed the last minutes and ended up winning by 83-89.
