Conditioned by a bad start

The senior reacts in the last quarter, but cannot avoid defeat on the Menorca Bàsquet Club court (69-59)

The Girona Basketball senior could not return from Maó with a victory in his pocket. In a high-intensity match, the team led by Quim Costa ended up being weighed down by bad staging. A burden that he has dragged and that he has not been able to dilute even with his reaction in the last quarter (69-59). The defeat leaves him with a 12-5 record, the same as his opponent this afternoon. Club Bàsquet Menorca, however, takes second place in the CA group of the EBA League because the average has also been taken (+6 for the Girona team in Fontajau).

The Menorcans have not lost a game on their court for more than four months and in the first minutes they have marked the ground (11-0). It was difficult for the team, uncomfortable, to get into the game and, when it seemed that they were getting together, a 10-0 run at the start of the second quarter has again distanced the Balearics (30-15, 14′). At half-time, the difference had been reduced to -11, but Básquet Girona was heavily penalized for its low percentages, especially in two-point shots (7/24, 29%). Club Bàsquet Menorca has established a maximum difference at the end of the third quarter, imposing its defense (49-33), but the team, far from giving up, has shown character. And this, together with the success, has put him back in position to fight for victory (56-51, 33′). But, despite having a chance in the following minutes, he could not get any closer and ended up conceding. Raimon Carrasco, with a fever, has been absent at the last minute.

The seniors’ next game will be next Saturday, February 24, in Fontajau against CB Cantaires de Tortosa (7 p.m.).
