CS Dinamo București will be the first European rival in the history of FIATC Girona, which this season faces its first participation in the FIBA Europe Cup. The Romanian team has overcome KB Peja in the preliminary phase of the competition and has earned the ticket to play in the group phase.

A history of Romanian basketball

CS Dinamo București is one of the most traditional sports entities in Romania. Its men’s basketball section was founded in 1949 and over the following decades it consolidated itself as one of the great dominators of Romanian basketball.

The Bucharest team has accumulated 22 Romanian league titles, four of which were achieved after 1989. During the 1950s and 1960s, Dinamo played in some of the country’s greatest basketball duels, especially against CCA/Steaua București.

This tradition has also been transferred to the international scene, where the Romanian team has accumulated several participations in European competitions.

A team with a lot of international experience

Dinamo reaches the regular phase with a squad that combines players with extensive international experience and profiles from different European markets, as well as regular national players in the Romanian national team, among whom Nándor Kuti, Ștefan Grasu and Radu Virna stand out.

One of the prominent names is Rostyslav Novitskyi, a Ukrainian center with experience in the Latvian and Estonian leagues, French U21 basketball and the NCAA. The player has also been part of the Ukrainian national teams, both in the youth categories and with the national team.

Also noteworthy is Mamadou Dramé, a Guinean player with experience in the Endesa League, where he played for Joventut, and with a long international career. Throughout his career, he has played in championships in Turkey, Israel, Estonia, Latvia, France, Poland and Lithuania, before arriving in Romanian basketball.

Another of the main references is Derrick Marks, an American guard with experience in different European leagues. Marks has played in Italy, Germany, Turkey and Bulgaria, and is currently facing a new experience in Romania.

Also prominent on the perimeter is DJ Burns, an American who made the leap to European basketball after his college days in the NCAA. Israel was his first destination on the continent before joining the Dinamo project. During the preliminary phase against Peja he was one of the most outstanding players for the Romanian team.

The squad also includes Anthony Roberts, an American player with experience in the NCAA and a professional career in Portugal, France, Hungary, Romania and Mexico.

Finally, Jonathan Stark brings experience in different international basketball scenarios. The American point guard has played in the NCAA and has spent much of his professional career in Germany, Hungary, France, Greece and Japan, before arriving in Romanian basketball.
