FIATC Girona was unable to overcome Joventut Badalona in the third round of the Catalan League ( 95-84 ). Despite the team’s constant attempts to react, the great success from the triple point by the Badalona team made the difference in Tarragona.
Joventut started with a 10-5 run that led Moncho Fernández to call a timeout. In a first quarter marked by success from the triple (26-16), a good final reaction from FIATC Girona made it 28-24. In the second period, turnovers and rival transitions allowed the team from Badalona to sign a 9-1 run and take a maximum advantage of thirteen points (33-25). An improvement in the final stretch allowed them to close the gap to go to the locker room 42-33, highlighting the 8 points from Mac and Pep at halftime.
In the second half, Joventut once again widened the gap to 16 points (66-50) driven by Ricky and Reyes’ outside shot. However, Girona went from lack to advantage and reacted with a run led by Stenionis and a 2+1 by Marić to close the third quarter 73-63. In the last ten minutes, Joventut regained the lead (85-67), but FIATC Girona did not give up. With actions by Whittaker, Marić and a three-pointer on the horn by Stenionis, the score closed at 95-84.
