Defeat against Valladolid

The team overcomes a first quarter against, with a giant Albert Sàbat, but does not manage to overcome the opponent in a tight final stretch (70-73)

Basketball Girona lost in the last minute against Real Valladolid Baloncesto in the fair match in Fontajau (70-73). After a negative first quarter, the team from Girona went on a 31-10 run between the second period and three quarters of the third to go away with thirteen points (56-43). Albert Sàbat gave an outside recital with seven triples (29 points) that catapulted the Girona attack.

The first minutes were resolved with a balance on the scoreboard with a triple by Robert Cosialls (11-11, 6′) after a partial 0-7 Leonese. Then, the scoring dynamic was rival, with a partial 2-14 from the counterattack and individual actions that ended with an additional free kick (13-25). A triple from Albert Sàbat al  time limit has reduced the maximum purple difference from +13 (18-28).

A three-pointer from Llagostera’s base opened the scoring in the second quarter when two minutes of play had not been completed. In the first few games, the defenses prevailed over the attacks with a score of 4-3 in the fourth minute of play, when the visiting team entered the bonus. The defensive improvement has given wings to the Girona attack (26-31) before the entry of Kavion Pippen who has strengthened the purple interior game (26-35). The moral energy of Sàbat’s triples allowed them to regain the distance to five points in the final stretch (31-36). 

The start of Girona’s game in the resumption was apotheosis with an 18-2 partial run (49-38) and a clear protagonist: Albert Sàbat, author of thirteen of the eighteen points with four triples that lifted Fontajau. The maximum, which would reach thirteen points, would be reduced to three points after a partial 2-10 (58-55).

The last ten minutes have been developed in a balance in the game and in the scoreboard in a scenario of short distances for the two combined that seemed to fall to the Girona side less than a minute and a half from the end (68-64). Two quick purple actions and three free throws by Wintering ended the victory for Valladolid (70-73).
