Bàsquet Girona returned from the February break with a defeat against Unicaja Málaga at the Martín Carpena (94-70). Aíto García Reneses’ team completed a good first half but the distance on the scoreboard widened at the restart (72-53 in the third quarter). Marc, Miletić and Hill have been the best Girona players.

The game started with a cold pace (5-5, 4′) that accelerated as the minutes went by. In the first period, two individuals stood out, Darío Brizuela (9 points) for the local side and Jeremiah Hill (8 points) for the visitor, who encouraged the scoring activity. The Andalusian team, which has won by eight points on two occasions after a triple, has finished with a +6 thanks to a triple from the American (22-16).

The team coached by Ibon Navarro would also go to the locker room with a +6 but with a different second quarter script. A 5-0 run would increase the opponent’s advantage to 10 points, but the Girona team cut the deficit to 5 points after a triple by Hill (39-34, 18′) before the 41-35 with which ‘I would get to the middle.

In the resumption, the local team improved its version on both sides of the court and the difference in the score increased to 72-53 with an outstanding presence of Dylan Osetkwoski (author of 10 points in the period). The Girona team has not been able to stop the good local offensive dynamics both on the counterattack and in static situations with the improvement of Miletic in scoring and of Marc in the collective version both in attack and defense. The partial 22-17 in the last quarter made the final 94-70.

The next Bàsquet Girona match is on Sunday, March 12 in Fontajau against Valencia Basket (12:30 p.m.).

Post-match reactions:

“Congratulations to Unicaja who played with more energy than us. We have to think that if we made improvements during the season, we have to work to recover them after the stoppage.”
