Básquet Girona suffered its first defeat of the pre-season against CB Prat in the second game of the Catalan League at the Joan Busquets stadium (74-59). However, the defeat by less than sixteen points gives him direct access to the Fontajau final next Saturday. The opponent started very intense and very successful (14-3) but the team managed to reduce distances and stay in the game until the final minutes.

The game started with great energy from the team from Praten, which was eight points ahead in the first minute and a half with two three-pointers in the statistics (8-0). 15 of Potablava’s 27 points in the first half came from outside resources, one of which established the first maximum disadvantage of more than ten points (14-3). The team from Girona reacted with a partial 3-6 which the local team responded with an 8-1 (24-10). Sergi Costa, the best in El Prat with 8 points, closed the quarter (27-14).

In the first minutes of the second period, the Girona team was more proactive in attack and defence, generating three personal fouls and reducing the difference to below ten points (30-21) but a local 5-0 run resituated the disadvantage of fourteen points. The team from Girona has started to find gaps in the opposing defense and score points on the counterattack, but they have met a Prat that has always generated the alternative, with continuity from the triple (44-29).

The rematch started with few points on the scoreboard that ended in favor of Potablava (54-36), widening the gap to eighteen, but the Girona team reacted with a partial 0-7 that ended with a triple in transition by Albert Sàbat (54-43) before ending the quarter within ten points (56-46). In the last ten minutes, the reds had good moments to reverse the dynamic, however, the Pratense team managed to respond forcefully, overcoming the sixteen-point deficit that was key for the Girona side to reach the final. A triple by Olaf Schaftenaar and three points from the Dutchman’s free kick have reduced the final score to minus fifteen, allowing Básquet Girona to reconfirm their status as finalists in the Catalan League LEB Gold (74-59).
