Dominykas Stenonis signs for FIATC Girona

The Lithuanian point guard signs a temporary contract with an option to extend until the end of the season

Dominykas Stenonis (Kaunas, Lithuania, July 3, 2002) is a new player for FIATC Girona, with whom he signs a temporary contract. The base, 1.79 meters high, comes from Latvia’s Valmiera Glass VIA.

Stenionis began his career at Zalgiris Kaunas in the 2019/20 season, where he played for three seasons with the second team. In his final season at the club, however, he left Zalgiris to join Nevezis, of the Lithuanian first division, where he played for two seasons.

In the 2024/25 season he signed for Lietkabelis, also in the Lithuanian first division, with whom he made his debut in European competition in the EuroCup. His last season he played for Valmiera Glass VIA in Latvia, where he averaged 13.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 7.9 assists per game, with an average rating of 17.1.

With the Latvian team, Stenionis was a key player in the conquest of the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League. During the six play-off games, the point guard increased his performances to 17.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game, with an average rating of 19. That same season, he also won the Latvian Basketball Cup title, after Valmiera defeated Ventspils in the final, in which Stenionis was chosen MVP.

His growth at Valmiera was under the guidance of coach Kaspars Vecvagars, known to Bàsquet Girona fans. The former Latvian player signed for Bàsquet Girona in July 2021 and was part of the team that achieved promotion from LEB Or to the Endesa League that season.

Before making his debut in European competition with Lietkabelis, Stenonis had already participated in the Adidas Next Generation Tournament with Zalgiris Kaunas U18 during the 2019/20 season.

International with the lower categories of the Lithuanian national team, Stenionis has played in European and world championships with the U19 and U20 combined teams. With the U19 team he participated in the World Championship held in Latvia in 2021, while in 2022 he played in the U20 European Championship in Montenegro, where Lithuania finished in second place, behind Spain.

The Lithuanian point guard has already made his debut with the senior national team. He did so on August 28, 2026, in the match against Turkey corresponding to the European qualifying phase for the 2027 FIBA ​​World Cup.

After Isaac’s injury, we understood that we needed to strengthen the starting position to face the start of the double competition with three players in this position. The club has made an effort to incorporate Dominykas and thus complete the position. We thought of Dominykas because he is a player who performed very well last season in a league lower than the ACB, but who we believe is ready to make the leap and compete in the ACB. Above all, we consider that he fits very well with our style of play. He is a small player, but with a lot of character and very electric. He has a great ability to generate advantages for his teammates, unbalance this front line and, from there, find good passes. He also has a good ability to generate his own shots. We believe that he fits very well in the rhythm at which we want to play and in our way of understanding basketball. For all this, we have decided to incorporate him initially with a temporary contract, with the option that he can stay for the entire season.
