FIATC Girona visits Casademont Zaragoza this Saturday, at 6 p.m., at the Príncipe Felipe pavilion, in the match corresponding to the sixth day of the Endesa League. The Girona team faces the duel with a balance of three wins and two losses, the same as the Aragonese team. Moncho Fernández’s team arrives after beating Joventut de Badalona in the league by 101 to 87 , although on Wednesday they lost in the FIBA Europe Cup against Szolnoki by 81 to 79. The last precedent between the two teams is favorable to FIATC Girona, which last season won in Zaragoza by 90 to 94.
Casademont Zaragoza comes to the match after losing to Barça 99 to 81. Despite this result, the Aragonese team has started the competition with three wins and two losses and stands out for its offensive potential. Among the most outstanding players are point guard Bell-Haynes, with an average of 13.5 points and 4.5 assists per game, and guard Jaworski, who adds 16.6 points per game with a 42.9% success rate in three-pointers. Also worth noting is point guard Guillem Vives, another of the local team’s key players.
In the preview of the match, Moncho Fernández highlighted the opponent’s offensive quality: “It’s too early to make global assessments, but Zaragoza is really good. They have great offensive potential and are very dangerous in all positions: the perimeter, the interior players… Our defense must be key if we want to win.”
The Girona team faces a new demanding commitment in a tight schedule, after the European trip to Hungary. Moncho Fernández explained that the team has little time to prepare for the match: “We arrived on Thursday at noon, and after training this Friday we leave again. There is not much time. We are focused on trying to win and be competitive”. Regarding McClung’s physical condition, the coach indicated that they hope he is better and can help the team, after resting in the European match due to hamstring discomfort and quota management.
FIATC Girona will therefore seek to maintain the good level shown in the league and achieve another home victory against a rival with many offensive weapons.
