About the opponent
Asisa Joventut started the league with two defeats at home, against Río Breogán (110-104) and Kosner Baskonia (93-73). However, the green-and-black team has reacted with two consecutive victories in the Catalan derbies, first against MoraBanc Andorra (96-75) and then with a prestigious triumph against Barça (113-89). In addition, the team from Badalona arrives in Fontajau after overcoming Telekom Baskets Bonn by 76 to 74 in the Basketball Champions League.
The team led by Dani Miret has a very high-level squad, with players of great experience and talent such as Ricky Rubio, who records 11.8 points and 8.8 assists per game, or Nico Laprovittola, with an average of 17 points. Also notable are names such as Álex Reyes, Emir Sulejmanovic and Simon Birgander, among others.
FIATC Girona also comes into the match with two wins and two losses in the Endesa League. The Girona team beat Leyma Coruña 110-90 on the last day of the domestic competition and, in the European competition, achieved a convincing victory against Zastal Zielona Góra 109-68.
Moncho Fernández highlighted the value of playing at home, but warned of the difficulty of the challenge: “Playing at home is always a positive point. It will not be at all similar to the pre-season match. The circumstances are very different. It will be a very complicated match against one of the greats in the league. We will face players with a lot of experience and great talent. I expect a match that will demand a lot from us in the defensive aspect and in which we will have to be up to what the match demands.”
FIATC Girona will seek to capitalize on the Fontajau factor to add another victory against a highly demanding rival.
