Marija Lekovic (Bar, Montenegro, July 21, 2003) is a new player for SPAR Girona for the 2026/27 season. The 1.70-meter-tall Montenegrin base player arrives from Ingeniería Ambiental CAB Estepona and signs a contract for one season.

Lekovic was trained at Budućnost, the club with which he began his career. In addition to competing in the different categories of Montenegrin basketball, he debuted in the WABA U15 during the 2017/18 season. That same year he also competed in the WABA U17, a category in which he continued during the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons. In this last season he began to combine his participation in training categories with his presence in the first team of Budućnost, both in the WABA and the Montenegrin League.

The point guard gradually gained prominence until becoming one of the outstanding players in Montenegrin basketball. During the 2020/21 to 2022/23 seasons, she continued her evolution at the top level. In the 2020/21 season, she was chosen as the best point guard in the Montenegrin League, while in the 2022/23 season, she was part of the best defensive five in the Adriatic League. During this period, Budućnost won three Montenegrin League titles.

In the WABA competition, Lekovic also had an outstanding career. She was the champion of the Adriatic League in the 2019/20 season and a finalist in the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons. In addition, in the 2020/21 season she was recognized as the competition’s MVP.

In the 2023/24 season, she made the leap to Turkish basketball by joining Fenerbahçe, where she combined participation in the reserve team with presence in the first team. With the Turkish team, Lekovic was part of a team that won the EuroLeague Women, the Turkish League, the Turkish Cup and the European Super Cup.

Lekovic also started the 2024/25 season at Fenerbahçe before making the jump to Spanish basketball. In February 2025 he joined Perfumerías Avenida, where he played until the end of the season. The following season he signed for Valencia Basket. Later, in February 2026, he left the Valencian team to defend the jersey of Ingeniería Ambiental CAB Estepona, a team with which he played the end of the 2025/26 season, before joining the SPAR Girona project.

International with Montenegro

At the international level, Lekovic has been an international with the youth categories of Montenegro. In the summer of 2018 he participated with the U16 national team, a category in which he also competed in the summer of 2019. Later, he was part of the U20 national team during the summers of 2022 and 2023.

On 17 November 2018, at the age of 15, she made her debut for the senior national team of Montenegro, coached by Roberto Íñiguez, in a EuroBasket qualifier against Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 2022, she was one of the main stars of the European U20 Championship, where she was named MVP of the tournament and the competition’s top scorer. Her international progression has also allowed her to consolidate herself with the senior national team, with whom she has participated in top-level European competitions.

Statements from Pere Puig, sports director of SPAR Girona:

We are very happy to announce the arrival of Marija Lekovic, a player who arrives with a lot of hunger and a desire to assert herself. Roberto knows her very well and, from the first moment, he opted for her to be the point guard who would accompany Iyana Martín, with the reinforcement of Juana Camilión in this position. Therefore, we consider that the point guard position is closed and we have finished outlining the squad with some small tweaks that are still pending.”
