Meet the senior players (I): Pau Juscafresa

"Quim Costa has taught me to put the team above 'me' and to sacrifice for the team"

Pau Juscafresa (Banyoles, 1997) arrived at Básquet Girona in the summer, coming from CB Sant Narcís (Cup Catalunya). Currently, he combines basketball with his undergraduate studies in Psychology at the University of Girona. Before that, he had also studied two years of Biotechnology, also at the UdG. He is one of three members of the family in the club because his cousins, Arnau and Gerard Juscafresa, play with the U15. -How are you doing this season?

“The truth is that very well. Everything has been progressing correctly. Some other season I had played some matches in EBA [2015/16, with the Quart], but not with the same role or responsibility. In August, it was a challenge to be part of such a big project. There was some uncertainty, but those uncertainties have gone away by working training after training. Having good teammates, a good technical team and all the people involved has helped in the back. Everything makes me feel very comfortable and looking forward to more day after day.”

-How does Quim Costa help you, the young people?

“Work, effort, sacrifice for the team, concentration and commitment is the motto of our coach. From the beginning, Quim has transmitted them to us and helped us to integrate them. He has a lot of left hand when it comes to deal with us, the youngsters. With the time we have been together, he already knows us thoroughly and knows how to maximize and improve the individual characteristics of each player.”

-How are you seeing the team?

“Very good. We are showing that we are getting better when it comes to fighting against adversity. Sharing the court with experienced players in the league or other higher categories means that you can learn and improve a lot, in technical or tactical aspects. Now we have nine games left and we have to try to be regular until the end of the season. Be generous, not obsess about the classification and give everything game by game.”

A place in Girona to get lost in : All of the Old Quarter.

A current basketball player with whom you feel identified: Marc Gasol, our president, for his humility.

The last book you read : “Lo que el cerebro nos dice” by Ramachandran, very interesting.

A hobby : I would make a long list, but if I had to choose one it would be spending time with family and friends.

A life motto : With work and sacrifice, goals are met. In other words, whoever sows, reaps.

A sport, aside from basketball : Despite my poor dexterity, I have always liked kicking football, and also tennis.

The best basketball player in history : It is difficult to choose one. Nationally, La Bomba Navarro and I’m big on Kevin Durant, but Jordan is Jordan.

A dream to fulfill : Never lose my enthusiasm for the things that make me happy.

A team : Of all the teams I’ve played in, I’ve taken away very good memories.

A film : “Untouchable” by Oliver Nakache and Éric Toledano. Also, I really like his BSO, by Ludovico Enaudi.
