One goal match

| Friday, 15 February 2019

Básquet Girona will face Real Murcia (14-7), second in the league, to achieve a victory that would give the team coached by Quim Costa a big boost for the second phase of the competition.

Both Catalans and Murcians will want to win the last match of the first phase, not so much to see who is ahead in the standings – whoever wins will reverse the other – but to decide who will pull off one more victory in the second phase that promises to be very exciting and equal. The Girona players play at home and start with a slight advantage, considering that they won the first leg 58 – 71. However, the team coached by Rafael Monclova is not the second ranked in this “East” group of Leb Plata by chance.

The Murcian team has a positive record away from home, having won 6 of the 10 matches played away from home.  Prince of Asturias Pavilion.  In addition, it is the second highest scoring team with an average of 75.3 points and the second lowest conceding points per match with 68 points per game.

So, the Girona players will have to complete a game equal to or better than the one in the first round if they want to win against a team with one of the most complete squads in the competition. Americans Beranek (11.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 15.2 rating), De Shawn Curtis (14.1 points and 6 rebounds per game), Alicante center Sergio Mendiola (7 rebounds per game and 14.6 rating) or the top assistant in the league, the Danish Frederik Nielsen (5 assists per match), will be the benchmarks for a Murcia eager to attack Fontajau.

*Quim Costa rating:

They are a very powerful team physically and this gives them an advantage both in attack and defence. They are a very scoring team and we will have to be attentive in their outside shooting”.

“We will have to use all five senses if we want to have any chance of winning.”
