Spar Girona | Saturday, 11 October 2025
Spar Girona will host Baxi Ferrol in Fontajau this Sunday (6 p.m.) in the first home game of the 25/26 season. After their victory in their European debut , the Girona team is looking to add their first win in the LF Endesa against a demanding opponent who is in good form.
Baxi Ferrol arrives in Girona with high morale after winning the first day against the reigning champion, Valencia Basket Club, by 71 to 65. The team led by Lino López maintains its identity of cheerful and choral play, despite having incorporated new pieces this summer. Dalayah Daniels (17 points and 7 rebounds), Moira Joiner (15 points), Claire Melia (14 points) and Blanca Millán (12 points) were the most outstanding in the debut, demonstrating the offensive potential and solidity of the Galician block.
With a strong national core and international players who adapt quickly to the system, Baxi Ferrol has once again confirmed that they can compete head-to-head with any rival in the league. Their high pace, ability to punish from the outside and solidity inside make them a particularly uncomfortable opponent.
In addition, they have also started on a good foot in the 2025-26 EuroCup Women, beating SL Benfica at home by 55 to 64.
Ainhoa López has highlighted the importance of facing the match with intensity and concentration: “We have to think about Baxi Ferrol. It is a team that we cannot trust and it already showed on the first day how competitive it is. We will have to be very attentive with national players like Blanca Millán and with the international game that adapts very well to Lino’s approach. We need to be all in to put energy and compete in this match.”
In the same vein, Roberto Íñiguez highlighted that “Baxi follows the line that Lino is taking. It is a different line, and when there is a different team it draws attention. This different style makes the difference compared to the others. It is a team like it has been in recent years: very dangerous. For me, one of the most important things is that the team is clear that they are very dangerous. We have to do things very well to compete. From this starting point the details come, but the first point is the mental one.”
The Girona team will look to open their season with a victory in Fontajau and make the most of the support of the fans to add their first victory in the league. The match will also serve to continue growing collectively and consolidate the good feelings from the start of the season.
