Second visit to the north

The senior faces the first of two Basque rivals

| Friday, 08 March 2019

The senior team of Basketball Girona visits the Pol·larrea stadium on Saturday with the aim of achieving the first victory of the second phase. Quim Costa’s team will face Zornotza Saskibaloi Taldea (18:30) in another demanding match. The Girona players will set foot on the Basque floor with the will to reverse the negative dynamics of results.

Zornotza Saskibaloi Taldea, from the municipality of Amorebieta-Echano, has followed a similar path to Basketball Girona after competing in the EBA category last year. In the same way, the sports management has once again entrusted the reins of the team to Mikel Garitaonandia, who was already coach last year. Like Girona, Zornotza has started this second phase on a bad footing, with two defeats in two games. The Basque team finished the first phase in third position, with a record of 13 wins and 9 losses.

In these first two days, the Zornotza Saskibaloi Taldea has an average of 72’5 points and stands out for being the second team with the most fouls. Their most valuable player in the first phase was Kevin Richard Bercy, who has the best rating average in this second phase. The player who finished with the highest rating in these two matches was Saah Nimley (27 rating vs HLA Alicante).

*Quim Costa’s assessment

“We will go with every intention of winning the game. In this start, beyond the two defeats, we have lost the line of play a little and we have not yet found either the rhythm or the sensations we were carrying”

“It is a team that has been strengthened with a physically powerful interior player. Their external game is based on the base and the escort, who are the ones who carry the singing voice”
