SPAR Girona has started the 2026/27 pre-season with a clear and convincing victory in Platja d’Aro against Manresa. The team led by Roberto Íñiguez has offered a very solid and dominant version from the initial jump, imposing a high pace of play and great defensive aggression to overcome the first test (102-41).
SPAR Girona completed an impeccable first half in Platja d’Aro, imposing a very high pace from the start. The team quickly set the tone with a dazzling start by Axelle Merceron —author of 16 points before the break— and the success of Laura Quevedo and Madison Conner from the outside, establishing an initial 15-2 run that forced Manresa to stop the game. The work in transition, the defensive solidity and the continuous contribution of the bench, with outstanding minutes for Marija Leković, Carolina Guerrero and the young players, have allowed them to open a gap in the first quarter (32-11) and gradually widen the difference in the second period until leaving the locker room with a resounding 59-22.
In the second half, the Girona team did not lift their foot off the accelerator and maintained the same intensity on both sides of the court. Queralt Casas’ free throw appearances, Laura Quevedo’s continued success and Marija Leković’s leadership allowed them to further widen the gap in the third quarter (78-35). In the last ten minutes, Roberto Íñiguez’s rotations gave prominence to the young players from the youth team such as Berta Grabalosa and Mariona Bota, who added fluidly in attack. The final success of Axelle Merceron —highest scorer of the duel with 25 points— and Ainhoa López finished sealing a very solid victory, surpassing the hundred-point mark (102-41).
