FIBA has officially confirmed the list of clubs registered for the next edition of the EuroLeague Women 2026-27, where Spar Girona will once again be one of the representatives of the national basketball. The Girona-based entity has been included in the group of 12 teams that will compete in the Qualifiers (the preliminary phase), with the aim of achieving one of the last four places that give access to the regular phase of the highest European competition.

Our possible rivals

Among the list of teams that also compete in the preliminary round are teams such as Umana Reyer Venezia (Italy), Sopron Basket, DVTK Miskolc (Hungary), Emlak Konut (Turkey), Flammes Carolo Basket (France), Zabiny Brno and KP Brno (Czech Republic), ENEA AZS Poznan (Poland), Panathinaikos AC (Greece), KKZ Crvena Zvezda (Serbia) and Kibirkstis Vilnius (Lithuania).

A new preview format

Unlike previous seasons with round-robin qualifiers, this year’s route features new features. The 12 teams from the preliminary round will be divided into four groups of three teams each, functioning as a mini ‘Final Four’ with three independent roadmaps:

– The teams that start as seeded teams (Pound 1) will advance directly to the final of their group.

– The teams from Pot 2 and Pot 3 will first face off in a single-game semifinal.

– The winner of this semifinal will play the grand final against the top seed in a single match to decide who gets the ticket to the regular season of the EuroLeague.

If they do not pass this demanding preliminary phase, Spar Girona would automatically be assured of their presence in the group phase of the EuroCup Women.

On July 16, the draw

Spar Girona, which has the backing of its great experience in Europe and its recent records, will know its rivals next Thursday, July 16 at 11:00 (CET), when the official draw will be held at the FIBA headquarters in Munich (Germany). In the days before, the definitive pots will be made public, which will be configured according to the official performance ranking of European clubs in the last three seasons.

At the moment, twelve teams have already secured a direct place for the regular phase, among which the current champion, Fenerbahçe Opet (Turkey), and the state teams Valencia Basket and Casademont Zaragoza stand out.
