The derby stays in Lleida

The team competes until the last quarter but runs into solid opposition on both sides of the court

Basketball Girona lost to Barris Nord de Lleida by 86-65. Despite trailing, the team competed until the last quarter after a basket by Jaume Sorolla (60-56), but a 26-9 run broke the balanced dynamic. The leadership of Sàbat in the management, the dynamism of Sevillano and the contribution of Sorolla in the painting have been the positive notes of an irregular performance.

Lleida has maintained the initiative on the scoreboard since the first elections with an active Miguel González and the inches of Badji imposing after the departure of Marc. The entrance of Albert Sàbat and Gerard Sevillano have given more continuity to the attack from the perimeter and the imbalance. A triple from Lleida in the last second extended the difference to six points when the team from Girona was approaching the scoreboard (21-15).

The balance was maintained in the second ten minutes until the final stretch, when, after good collective minutes, with a more dynamic attack and with the tie at hand (triple missed with 40-37) a partial 5-0 has reduced the deficit to -8 (45-37).

In the second half, the Girona team did not break away from the scoreboard in a more defensive third period (15-14) but at the beginning of the last ten minutes, after a triple and assistance from Sàbat (60-56) a partial score of 26-9 favored the match for a more solid and regular Lleida.

POST-Match STATEMENTS:

Arnau Sacot: “We had planned a game going out with an intensity of trying to dominate and I think that at the beginning it was difficult for us to get in. We were aware that we were playing on a complicated court, that they wanted to compete and they have had time to work. We couldn’t adapt to that, we let them in and went backwards. At the moment, we lacked the consistency in attack to play easy situations more comfortably while in defense we continued to suffer.”
