The Rosario player will be part of the 2024/25 squad

Girona, July 4, 2024 . Juan Ignacio Marcos, born in Rosario in 2000, is the sixth signing of the Bàsquet Girona squad for the 2024-25 season. The signing of the Italo-Argentine baseman, who is 190 cm tall, responds to the club’s desire to create a long-term sporting project as he is a young player with a great vision of the game and a very promising future.

Marcos began his career at Peñarol of the Argentine first division, where he played from 2015 to 2019. Then he made the jump to Europe with the FC Barcelona subsidiary. During this period, he was transferred to ICG Força Lleida of LEB Or , where he played for two seasons. Last season, he played on loan at Bàsquet Girona , averaging 9.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in the 22 games played, with an average rating of 11.1 per game. His best game in terms of rating was in Fontajau against Valencia, where he achieved 18 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and a rating of 20.

Juani Marcos has also been a member of the lower categories of the Argentina national team, participating in the 2017 South American U-17 Basketball Championship, the 2018 FIBA Americas U-18 Championship, and the U-18 World Basketball Championship 19 of 2019. In addition, he competed in the 2018 South American Games, where the U-18 team took the silver medal competing against absolute teams.

Juani Marcos made his debut with the Argentina national team in February 2024 in a match against Chile, corresponding to the qualifying phase for the 2025 FIBA AmeriCup.

Fernando San Emeterio , sports director, “ Juani is a special player, with a unique talent. I think we all saw him this year in Fontajau. I am very happy to have him with us for another year, especially because he wanted to be in Girona. He had other options and prioritized Girona, since last year they bet on him and he felt comfortable, which we appreciate.”
Juani Marcos , “What makes me decide for Girona and for its project is all the people, all the support they gave me from the beginning and everything they continued to give me even when they didn’t know if I would continue in Girona or if I would be on loan. The club made a great effort, they were always there to help me, and I think that is largely why I decided on Girona. On a personal level, I have to continue gaining experiences and responsibilities” .
