Spar Girona has added its fourth victory in the EuroLeague Women after winning on the VBW Gdynia court in a match that was decided in the second half thanks to a great collective reaction. After an irregular first half, Roberto Íñiguez’s team took a step forward in defense and found continuity in attack to end up controlling the pace and closing in on a convincing victory by 65 to 90 .

Although Spar started off dominant thanks to Coulibaly’s inside strength and Klara’s transition moves, Gdynia turned the tables by taking advantage of our defensive spaces, with Jakubiuk as the reference (7 to 6). The Girona team increased their defensive pressure, taking the lead again and imposing a 4 to 9 set thanks to Jocyte’s goal (11 to 15). However, the quick baskets from the Polish team leveled the game again (15 to 15). After the timeout, the local rhythm turned the score around with a three-pointer from Banaszak that made it 20 to 17.

The constant misses from long range broke the offensive rhythm of Spar, allowing the locals to open up the gap thanks to the contribution of Pawlowska and Jones at the start of the second quarter (27 to 19). The Girona team insisted near the basket, but the constant triples of VBW punished the Girona team (38 to 25). After Roberto’s timeout, Klara scored in a good transition, although Ekh responded again from the perimeter and Jocyte added under the basket (41 to 29). The local coach stopped the game, but Spar’s defensive improvement was noticeable and Jocyte hit the team’s second triple (2 of 12 in Q3, 41 to 32), closing Coulibaly’s fourth under the basket (41 to 34).

The change of pace radically changed the image of the Girona team, who came out determined to maintain the good momentum of the final stretch of the second quarter. The defensive solidity and the success in attack allowed Spar to impose a 2-9 run led by Quevedo, tying the match at 43. Immediately afterwards, Coulibaly put Roberto’s team ahead (43-45). The home break did not stop the Girona intensity and, with a concerted play and taking advantage of the Gdynia bonus, the advantage was extended to +9 (48-57). In the last minutes of the quarter, Coulibaly and Amihere’s internal dominance once again made a difference (51-66).

Although Gdynia managed to find holes in our defense, Spar Girona maintained its offensive dynamics at the pace of Klara and Lola (57 to 73). With local orders, Matilda, from long distance, and Wrzesinski, from the middle, have reduced the differences. But the aggressive defense of the Girona team, the offensive transitions of Canella and the three consecutive finishes of Pendande have placed the score at 65 to 81. Klara, Jocyte, Carol and Pendande have scored the last actions, the Girona team prevailing on the Gdynia court by 65 to 90 .
