Girona Basketball Press Release

First Team | Sunday, 15 March 2026

Dear fans of Bàsquet Girona,

Unfortunately, today we were not able to enjoy a match as you deserve as fans, nor as our players deserve. It is not the first time this season, and today the situation has been aggravated by the weather episode. However, it is a problem that we have been suffering for too many matches.

Fontajau needs an investment that will allow it to improve and update the facility after more than 30 years of operation, adapting it to the current level of competition.

We fully share your feelings of frustration. We know that you come to the stadium with enthusiasm, commitment and the desire to cheer on our teams, and situations like today are not up to par with what the fans deserve or what our club needs.

Our commitment to the team, to the players, to the sport and to the city and the region is firm.

We are aware that the City Council is trying to find solutions to the incidents that have occurred. However, we believe that it is necessary to go further and address a structural improvement of the facility.

For this reason, from Bàsquet Girona we ask the City Council to commit to investing in Fontajau in order to guarantee that our teams can compete at the highest level, with the same conditions and the same quality of facilities as the other teams.

We are very lucky and proud to have two teams competing in the highest category of basketball, representing not only a club, but also a city and an entire territory. Therefore, from Bàsquet Girona we ask for action from the City Council that allows everyone to enjoy the sport as they deserve and feel proud of our teams, our people and our city.

From the club we maintain our commitment to working tirelessly with the City Council to achieve a better Fontajau.

Thank you, as always, for your support and commitment.
