Spar Girona | Thursday, 30 April 2026
Spar Girona have achieved a hard-fought draw at the home ground of Innova-TSN Leganés (82-82) in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the LF Endesa. After trailing for almost the entire match and having to manage disadvantages of up to seventeen points, Roberto Íñiguez’s team reacted in time, highlighting the final display of Jocyte. With this score, the tie is completely open and will be decided in the return leg in front of the Girona fans.
With Klara leading the Girona attack (5 points), Leganés has become strong near the basket, achieving an initial 14-8 lead and stopping the Íñiguez shock. Spar Girona has increased its defense and Mariam and Klara have responded in attack (16-12). That said, with the exchange of three from both teams, Leganés has become strong and has differentiated itself on the scoreboard, highlighting the two triples from Herlihy and the others from Dudasova and Togores (27-15).
The constant success of three of the locals has increased the advantage to +17 (33-16). Having said that, the good timing of Axelle has allowed to reduce the difference and has forced Leganés to stop the clash (33-23). Once again, the Madrid team has managed to increase the advantage with the success from long distance to distance themselves again (45-28). And as if that doesn’t want it, the Girona team has changed the chip to impose a 4 to 13 set (49-41). With time for one last play, the action of Mariam designed by Roberto has placed the score at 49 to 43 at halftime.
As the game went into the locker room, Sangare’s good timing put the home team ahead again (57-47), but Mariam’s dominance inside the box put us just three points behind (57-54). With the score still tight, a three-pointer by Maria Espín stopped the Girona side’s run (63-58) and free throws by Sangare and Maria put Leganés ahead again (67-60). Lola responded from the free throw line and, when it seemed that the quarter would end with a score of 67 to 62, a shot by Togores on the horn made it 69 to 62.
With 10 minutes to go, Andelova was the first to score, but a 2+1 from Jocyte brought us back closer (71-65). Both teams tried to impose their rhythm and the result was an exchange from the line, which led Íñiguez to stop the clash with 6:16 left (75-69). Lola, with a great individual play, and a free throw from Mariam, put us within only 3 points (75-72), but Sangare’s response and Driessen’s free throw increased the difference to 6 points (78-72). Again, with a triple from Cornelius we came within three points, but Sangare’s free throws put us back at +5 (80-75). Our coach stopped the game to direct the last 2:11 minutes, and Jocyte took full control of the offense, converting three consecutive baskets to tie the game at 82. With this result, Fontajau will decide their passage to the semifinals.
