Defeat at Pazo Dos Deportes in Lugo

Girona Basketball is overcome by the solid rival defense and greater Galician success

First Team | Sunday, 17 May 2026

The match started with a slow pace and little success on the part of both teams, marked by intense defenses in which Girona stayed alive thanks to the offensive rebound. However, Río Breogán found more resources in the paint thanks to the intimidation of Danko Branković, closing the first quarter with an initial disadvantage of 16-9. In the second period, the locals led by Luis Casimiro took a step forward in attack; the success of Francis Alonso from the outside and the direction of Dominik Mavra opened the first gap to overcome the ten points of disadvantage for the Girona team. Despite the isolated efforts of Otis Livingston II and Martinas Geben, the Catalan team was overwhelmed and headed towards the locker room with a disadvantage of fourteen points (45-31).

In the second half, the script of the confrontation did not experience any substantial change and the Lugo team continued to manage the pace with initiative. Bàsquet Girona saw the difference quickly widen to almost twenty points (57-39) at the equator of the third quarter, turning the free throw line and transitions into their worst enemy. During the last period, although the visiting team tried to make up for the result in fits and starts, with the good performances of Otis and Martinas, the local team ended up certifying an unappealable final triumph (95-76).
