The team overcomes Asisa Joventut in an electric derby marked by the success of the away team and a great final reaction (82-77)
First Team | Friday, 29 May 2026
The Fontajau Pavilion experienced a thrilling start to the match, absolutely dominated by the 6.75 line, where Bàsquet Girona punished with 6 three-pointers in the first quarter (with a standout 3 of 4 for Mark Hughes) against a Penya that responded with 4 outside targets to close the first minutes very evenly matched, going from 13-11 to 13-18. In the second period, the exchange of blows continued to be fierce. Asisa Joventut managed to open a small gap in the scoreboard, coming to dominate by 5 points (35-40), but the offensive inspiration of a fired-up Hughes —author of 14 of the Girona team’s 31 points in the first half— led the local reaction. A strong 9-2 run before heading to the locker room turned the tables again to leave a tight 44-42 at the end of the match.
In the second half, Bàsquet Girona signed its momentary verdict thanks to a spectacular 12-0 opening run that widened the difference to 56-42. The locals were very comfortable on the court and reached a maximum difference of 18 points (65-47) against a Penya that was unable to replicate the good offensive role of Girona. Despite the distance, the script changed in the last quarter, with the visitors taking the lead. Asisa Joventut got the rhythm of the match and scored a 2-12 run that completely reopened the match. The team from Badalona turned the game around in the decisive period, taking the lead, but Bàsquet Girona managed to keep their cool in the crucial moments: the locals reacted in time to reverse the situation and, going from a complicated 72-64 to a final victory by 81-70 in the last sequence of fluid scoring, they certified a hard-earned 82-77 final that allowed them to bid farewell to the season with a big smile.
