From less to more

The team manages to turn around a 23-point deficit but loses in the final stretch in the third game in six days (95-101)

La Penya started the game dominating both sides of the court, which allowed them to take a distance of up to 22 points in the first quarter (9-31). The team from Girona managed to be more effective in the first few games of the second period, reducing the distance to 15 points and taking advantage of the outside shot (6 three-pointers at halftime).

Girona’s good tone was maintained in the rematch, in which the team improved its scoring records to the point of almost equaling the offensive score it had achieved in the entire first half (30 points) thanks to an energetic and incisive Mindaugas Sušinskas, author of a third of the points. The reaction in the attacking section was sterile, however, because Joventut equalized the confrontation in the scoring aspect after the 59-66 that had been reached with Quino’s triple (64-80).

In the last quarter, a partial 14-3 put fear in the body of the Rock, which ended up being real after Maxi Fjellerup achieved the tie and Yves Pons culminated the comeback with an action under the hoop (92- 90). The French player was the undisputed protagonist of the last period, with thirteen points, some in key moments, and two spectacular blocks that made us believe in the victory that escaped in the last minute of the game (95-101).

Salva Camps declarations:

“Today I would like to stick with the positive things we have done in the last three quarters, beyond the negative first quarter. We were able to get the game back when we were very much down.”
